Rake in dollars is derived from 100 TP per $1 of rake: the point threshold divided by one hundred. Returns follow the official programme description.
How Tide Points are earned
Every dollar of rake or tournament fee in real-money games earns 100 TP per $1 of rake. Play-money games earn nothing. Casino earns at its own rates - 4 TP per $1 in slots, 4 TP per $3 in table games, 9 TP per $8 in video poker - with a caveat on bet outcomes covered on the casino page.
GEMs: the reward currency
Returns arrive as GEMs, exchanged for dollars at a rate that improves with the amount: 1,000 GEMs per $1 from 5000 GEM, 900 GEMs per $1 from 90,000 GEM, 800 GEMs per $1 from 800,000 GEM, 660 GEMs per $1 from 33,000,000 GEM. Saving up beats cashing out in small pieces.
When a tier expires
Tide Points reset on 1 January at 00:00 UTC, but the tier reached this year holds until the end of the next. Miss the threshold again and the tier drops the following January. The predecessor programme, Fish Buffet, capped at 60%; Ocean Rewards raised the ceiling to 80% and lengthened the status.
In money terms
A player paying $500 of rake a year reaches Crab and gets 30% back; Octopus needs around $7500 and returns 50%. Work from your own rake, visible in PokerCraft inside the client. General theory: online poker rakeback.
